Canteen Overview

In response to the growing number of overweight and obese children in Australia, the NSW Government launched the Prevention of Obesity in Children and Young People: NSW Government Action Plan 2003–2007. Fresh Tastes NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy requires all NSW government schools to provide a healthy, nutritious canteen menu in line with the Australian Dietary Guidelines for Children and Adolescents.

Kororo's canteen already achieves this. The aim of our canteen is to provide a variety of nutritional food at a reasonable cost to our children. Our canteen is co-ordinated by Linda Henry and it relies on the help of volunteers to work in the canteen. All profits are transferred to the P&C Association, which helps subsidise the school's resource budget eg. Readers, P.E. equipment, maths etc.

Canteen Procedure

The prodecure for ordering lunch is - the children bring from home a paper bag with his/her name, class and lunch order written on it and, if possible, the correct money enclosed. This order is to be handed into the Canteen prior to the start of school. It will be delivered to the classroom as usual.

Parents Assisting the Canteen

We are hoping that with your assistance we will be able to operate the canteen 5 days a week. This can only be done with your help.

Please see the list of days and times that our canteen operates. If you would like to meet and make new friends this is an easy way to do so. The children love to see their Mum, Dad, Grandma or Grandpa at the Canteen. You can choose between weekly, monthly or once a term.

If you do choose to help in the canteen, please see Linda Henry at the canteen or pick up a form from the Office. The canteen roster will be announced weekly in the school newsletter (every Wednesday).
